If you are viewing these instructions as we have just moved your email accounts to our service and do not want to change from IMAP to POP (or vice-versa), you should be able to go into your email account settings and just change the server, port and security settings. The Tutorials section at the bottom of this page has instructions for common email clients.
If you do not currently have email software installed on your computer, we recommend Thunderbird for PC.
You can also access your email account via a web browser by going to https://webmail.sitehost.co.nz/
If after following these instructions your email still does not work (and are on a mac or PC), it is normally easiest for us to log in remotely and check your settings. You will need the free version of teamviewer if you want us to help in this way. https://www.teamviewer.com/en-us/ .
If using Mac mail or an iPhone with IMAP, you are best to delete your mail account and then add it again as a new account. Also, if you are on a late model iPhone, you will need to make sure you change the SMTP port back to 465, as they tend to automatically select 587. Your phone may then freeze and show it is 'verifying'. This is a common iPhone bug and if you restart your phone it will normally then apply the correct port setting.

Setting up a mail account using POP
To setup a mail account using the POP protocol, please configure a new account in your preferred email client with the following settings:
Account type | POP |
---|---|
Account username | Your full email address (e.g. john.doe@example.co.nz) |
Account password | Your password as provided to you by us |
Authentication method | Normal password (Plain) |
Incoming mail server address | mx1.sitehost.co.nz |

Please note the username and password will be exactly the same as the settings for your incoming mail. Ensure your mail client is configured to use authentication on outbound mail.
Security Settings
We uses SSL encryption as a standard on email traffic. This protects your login credentials and the contents of your emails as traffic is exchanged between the mail server and your local email software.
Ensure that you have configured your email software to use SSL (port 993 for IMAP or port 995 for POP) in the account settings.
Tutorials
There are numerous online tutorials with instructions on how to configure your preferred email client. Some of the most thorough instructions are provided in the Gmail Help - which we are referencing in the links below.
